VoIP Info
VoIP is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol. VoIP is also referred to as internet phone or broadband phone. This technology takes your voice, turns it into a digital format and then transmits that data over your broadband internet connection.
Dial-up users cannot get VoIP service. The main advantage of VoIP is its ability to call anywhere in the world at a cheaper cost, but with the same quality as your normal phone service.
You can use our existing phone with VoIP, but you will need one piece of additional hardware called a ATA or Analog Telephone Adapter. Fortunately, most VoIP service providers will provide this hardware to you free of charge.
After you signup with one of the VoIP providers, they will ship you out an ATA. Once you receive it, the setup is quite simple. Plug the ATA into your broadband internet modem and then plug your regular telephone into the ATA. Your telephone will act just like a regular phone with a lot more features than your used to having.
