If your not familiar with the technology behind VoIP or internet phone, it’s quite common to have many questions. We have heard questions from many different people about VoIP. Is VoIP the same as Internet Phone?
Yes, the technology of VoIP is commonly referred to as “Internet Phone” as well as “broadband phone”.
Will dial-up work with VoIP?
Unfortunately, VoIP will not work with a dial-up internet connection. VoIP phone requires a dedicated internet connection that you get with cable or DSL.
Do I need a phone line for VoIP?
The only requirements for VoIP service is a broadband internet connection like cable or DSL and a regular touch tone phone.
Do I need a router for VoIP?
Depends. If your current cable/DSL modem has an extra ethernet port open, you will not need a router. However, if there is no extra ethernet port, you will need a broadband router.
Are there any bandwidth requirements for VoIP?
As long as your internet connection is downloading and uploading above 256Kbps, you should be fine.
How is the sound quality with VoIP?
The sound quality should be as good or better than that of your traditional wired telephone service. However, VoIP is built on the speed and quality of your internet connection.
Can I only call people who also have VoIP?
No. You can call anyone who has a telephone.
Can I make International calls with VoIP?
You sure can. All VoIP providers offer really low rates for calling internationally, but you will have to check with the VoIP provider you choose.
Can I use my computer and talk on the phone at the same time?
Certainly. You can surf the web and call aunt Betty at the same time. Your VoIP phone and computer independently of each other.
Can I use my current phone with VoIP?
Yes. You can connect any touch tone phone with your VoIP service.
Do I need a computer to use VoIP?
No. You connect the ATA adapter directly to your cable/DSL modem and then connect your touch tone phone to the ATA adapter.
